Hellmann's | The Food Waste Effect

Hellmann's | The Food Waste Effect

8-10% of global greenhouse emissions are created by food waste. And when food is dumped in landfill and compressed, in decays anaerobically to release methane (CH₄), a powerful greenhouse gas 21 times more efficient at trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide (CO₂).

So for COP26 in Glasgow, we created an art installation in collaboration with artist Itamar Gilboa.

This work presents the 244kg of food the average UK family wastes in a year. Half of all UK food waste goes to landfill: stopping bread waste alone in the UK would have the same impact on climate change as planting 5.3 million trees.
